Feature: X-RATED Mums- Power of the Pussy

How far would you go to provide for your children?

When faced with bills and the mounting expenses of childcare, what woman hasn’t been tempted by the glittering matrix of the strippersphere? A place where all your financial woes will melt away like a rhinestone thong in the semi-darkness. You could then graduate to a blowjob in the backroom, an act that could equate to your phone and internet bill combined, with enough left over for a Big Mac and fries.

Imagery in the media would have you thinking that all sex work is a one way ticket to heroine addiction and sexually transmitted infections. A cautionary tale for any young mother considering trading her morality for hard cash. However, there’s little denying that a career in porn pays more than your average 9-5.

One such mother is Alana Evans(Married)(41) of Kentucky, USA who made her debut as a porn actress when she was 21 years old and a mother to a young son. Her net worth is now estimated at a number exceeding $1million. She says that the hardest part of juggling a career in adult entertainment and motherhood was, ‘Dealing with parents at schools. Some were cool and other’s were judgemental.’ Yet the million dollar question is, who is the loser here? The woman who can provide amply for her (now adult) children or the people judging her for having a less than conventional lifestyle?IMG_8052.PNG

Other adult entertainers with children such as German born Nina Elle(35) has made her name in the industry and has no qualms about admitting her love of sex. If someone loves sex, and is mature enough to handle the consequences of working in such an environment, then porn is the ideal occupation. A woman won’t go home and whip her dishwasher into submission, she’s probably lounging in her PJ’s just like you. She’s the Mum by the school gate, who adores her kids. Aside from fathers, brothers and sons viewing the material- porn is a pretty lucrative business if you do it right.

Of course, there are the horror stories. The girl who has to give head to an old man for five minuites of grainy film. The teen who is coearsed into taking her clothes off for a horny camera man with a penchant for those on the cusp of puberty. We mustn’t  forget those stories, they serve to remind us of very real worldly dangers.

As long as an individual is safe, within their own comfort zone and not being forced or trafficked into adult entertainment it is surely their right to maximise their earning power however they see fit? Is it not more immoral to rob unsuspecting individuals of their hard earned cash through other avenues, such as business? Alas, there is no such stigma in the corporate world.

It is a pertinent question that lies within our own moral street map – is our juxtaposed view of sex, obsession intertwined with abhorrence that causes our judgement of females, especially mothers, who make money doing porn? Millions of people all over the globe watch porn, yet in the same breath wouldn’t invite a porn star to lunch.

On average, single mothers are the poorest demographic in the Western world. With social stigma fed by negative media discourse, and women struggling to feed their children on meagre welfare cheques is it not essential that they utilise their (ahem) assets in order to take on the role of provider?
